Exploring the Michigan Renaissance Festival

Last year we explored the Michigan Renaissance Festival and had so much fun - you can see our article on the gorgeous Costumes here. This year, we went back again on Festival Friday. The Michigan Renaissance Festival has been held since 1979, and is open Weekends until October 4th.

It's another great time at the Renaissance Festival. As always, the highlight of our visit were the show s- the wandering show with Robin Hood and King John, the jousting, and the Washing Well Wenches. We also enjoyed the show with the Zucchini Brothers, who tossed fire and made us laugh. It is always different, although the shows can be the same - the audience makes each show exciting and new. The Robin Hood and King John show was very entertaining. It's just fun to be immersed in that time period, where actors and visitors truly get into character. It's an opportunity to escape into a different time period for a day. Even I got into character, on more than one occasion (like hollering back at the jousting guy, with an accent!).  The horses  in the Jousting Tournament were all rescue horses.

Our favorite thing was getting our photo taken by Little Dragon Custom Wear's Medieval Memories. We dressed up in costume and had a blast!

We also saw one of our favorite artists, Bill Stolpin. We've featured his work as one of our Artists of the Month.

There are 19 stages with shows going on all day. There are also food booths, artisan booths, and rides. It's a full day of fun, for the entire family. As we were leaving, we overheard a young woman saying to her friend, "I wish we could come every day, all year!" Indeed.

The Michigan Renaissance Festival will run weekends until October 4th!  There's still plenty of time to go and have fun.
