For Photo Fridays at Delicious Baby (travel photos from around the world), our daughter decided to post about her trip last weekend to Sleeping Bear Dunes, on Lake Michigan. The dunes are located just north a bit from Frankfort, Michigan. Here's what she had to say...
Last weekend, we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Have you been there? It is close to our cottage, so we drove there. Come along!

On our way to the Dunes, we passed by the Platte River.

All their canoes were put up for winter.

When I first saw the Sleeping Bear Dunes, I could NOT believe how big they were! And we were going to climb them! We almost went to the edge by Lake Michigan. We saw the two islands, that are the baby bears (North and South Manitou Islands). My mom stayed behind and took pictures, and my grampa and I climbed and hiked and it took a long time. And then I got used to it. I wish I had brought my camera so I could show you Lake Michigan and the two baby bear islands. Next time, I will!
Here we are, starting out.
Lots of people climb it. It was cold, so not so many today. In the summer, it is super crowded.
Here we are at the top of the first dune. Many more to go!
Here we are coming back! Tired and thirsty and hungry. We had a nice cold weather picnic.
Here is the Frankfort, MI, lighthouse. Then we ate dinner at Fusion, and had yummy pad thai.
Do you know the story of Sleeping Bear Dunes? There was a fire. The mama bear and her two baby bears jumped into Lake Michigan to escape the fire. They swam and swam. The two babies fell behind. Finally the mama bear made it to the shore. She kept looking for her babies. Finally, she turned into the sand dunes, Sleeping Bear Dunes. Her two baby bears are the islands right off the shore - they almost made it! I love this story. I love climbing the dunes. Maybe you can climb them, too, someday!
